Wolves Bolster Blueline with Wilson

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned defenseman CLAY WILSON to the Chicago Wolves, after acquiring the blueliner and a sixth round pick in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward JASON WILLIAMS.

WILSON has appeared in five National Hockey League games with the Blue Jackets this season, collecting one assist. He has also skated in 33 American Hockey League outings with the Syracuse Crunch, tallying eight goals, 12 assists and 20 points.

The 25-year-old defenseman made his NHL debut in seven matchups with Columbus last season, recording two points (G, A) and two penalty minutes. He also picked up 28 assists and 39 points in 57 tilts with the Crunch and eight points (3G, 5A) in 14 contests with the Portland Pirates during his third AHL campaign last year.

Overall, the Sturgeon Lake, Minn., native, has notched three points (G, 2A) in 12 career NHL matchups with Columbus (2007 to 2008) and 41 goals, 106 assists, 147 points and 133 penalty minutes in 243 AHL contests with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Pirates and Crunch, spanning four seasons (2005 to present.)

WILSON also accrued 18 points (6G, 12A) in 27 games with the Muskegon Fury of the now defunct United Hockey League from 2004 to 2006. Prior to going pro, he spent four seasons at Michigan Technological University, racking up 17 goals, 40 assists, 57 points and 119 penalty minutes in 148 outings from 2001 to 2005.
