Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---Three Chicago Wolves converted in the shootout and goaltender Robert Gherson stopped three of four Toronto Marlies attempts to help the Wolves snap a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 shootout win at the Allstate Arena Wednesday night.

Forwards Jeff Hamilton and Joe Motzko and defenseman Brett Skinner, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Islanders on Tuesday, found the back of the net during the shootout to give the Wolves their first win in eight games.

With Chicago (20-19-2-1) trailing, 2-1, with 3:17 remaining in regulation, left wing Jordan LaVallee potted a shorthanded goal to bring the team back to life. The left wing took a pass alone in the slot and cranked a shot over Toronto netminder Adam Munro to knot the score, 2-2.

Neither team could gain an edge in overtime, despite a two-minute power play for the Wolves, who outshot the Marlies, 6-2, in the extra frame.

"Our attention to detail tonight was better than it has been in three weeks and we were finally able to come out on top," said Wolves Head Coach Don Granato.

Toronto (21-15-1-4) broke a scoreless tie 24:09 into the game when an angled shot by right wing Kyle Rogers forced Gherson to the far right side of the net to make the save, and center Darryl Boyce pounced on the rebound, knocking it in to the vacant left side of the net.

Chicago tied it up, 9:49 into the middle frame. LaVallee drove down the slot and sent a pass to Colin Stuart, who flicked a shot toward the net that banked off a Toronto defender's skate and past the goaltender.

Munro (6-5-1) made 28 saves for the Marlies in regulation and overtime, and stopped two Chicago attempts in the shootout.

A Toronto power play midway through the third period opened up the ice for center Mark Bell to rip a long shot past Gherson, glove-side, to give the Marlies a 2-1 lead at 11:46 of the final frame.

Gherson (6-5-0) posted 23 saves for Chicago in regulation and overtime.

The Wolves travel to Rockford Friday for their final regular-season mathchup at the Rockford MetroCentre when they take on the IceHogs at 7:30 p.m.
