Manchester Monarchs News Release

HARTFORD, CT - Goaltender Jonathan Bernier recorded back-to-back shutouts as he stopped 20 shots in the Manchester Monarchs 2-0 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night.

Manchester (29-14-2-5) ranks first in the Atlantic Division with 65 points. Hartford (23-20-2-4) is in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 52 points.

Right wing John Zeiler broke the scoreless tie at 15:16 of the second period to give the Monarchs the 1-0 advantage. Defenseman Joe Piskula dumped the puck into the Wolf Pack's zone. Left wing Dwight King checked a Hartford player along the endboards and the puck popped free to Zeiler. The right winger took a couple strides toward the net before he snapped a wrist shot that squeezed between Wolf Pack goaltender Matt Zaba and the right post for his fifth goal of the season.

Right wing Jon Rheault doubled the Monarchs lead to 2-0 at 12:41 of the third period with his second goal of the season and second tally in as many nights. Center Corey Elkins skated down the left wing of the Wolf Pack's zone and sent the puck into the crease where Rheault was putting on the breaks. Rheault tipped the pass and the puck bounced up the post to Zaba's left. It flipped in the air above the net before Rheault was able to safely tap it into the open net as the goaltender was down in the crease. Center Tom Cavanagh also picked up an assist on Rheault's goal.

Bernier (21-11-5) earned his 21st win and his sixth shutout of the season by stopping all 20 shots he faced in the game. Zaba (3-7-1) took his seventh loss of the season with 33 saves on 35 shots.

Manchester was 0-for-4 on the power play. Hartford was also 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
