Albany River Rats News Release
HERSHEY, PA- Five players enjoyed multi-point nights for the East Division-leading Hershey Bears, who scored five goals on their first 10 shots en route to an 8-3 victory over the Albany River Rats Saturday night at the Giant Center.
Chris Bourque led the Bears with one goal and four assists as the defending Calder Cup Champions earned their 19th win in 20 games. Alexander Giroux added two goals and two assists for Hershey, Keith Aucoin netted two goals and one assist and Andrew Gordon scored a goal with two assists in the lopsided tilt. Mathieu Perreault also chipped in a pair of assists for the Bears, who have scored eight goals in each of their last four games.
Jonathan Paiement scored a goal and added one assist for Albany, and Nick Dodge and Casey Borer each tallied two assists as the River Rats saw their three-game winning streak and six-game point streak come to an end.
Hershey led 5-0 after just ten shots through 24:39 of action to chase starting goaltender Justin Peters from his post. Veteran Backstop Mike Morrison took-over for Albany and stopped 12-of-15 shots faced the rest of the way in his River Rats debut.
Paiement's second goal of the season made it 5-1 midway through the game, but Giroux reclaimed Hershey's five-goal lead in the opening minutes of the third period. River Rats forwards Steven Goertzen and Nicolas Blanchard scored back-to-back goals midway through the final frame to cut Albany's deficit to three goals, but Giroux and Francois Bouchard added two last Bears tallies to close-out the score sheet.
Hershey goaltender Jason Bacashihua stopped 28-of-31 shots faced in the game to earn the win, as the Bears improved to 36-9-0-2 this season. Peters took the loss for Albany, which fell to 26-17-3-2 this year. The River Rats out-shot Hershey 31-25 in the contest and went 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Bears went 3-for-8 on the man-advantage.
Albany returns to the Times Union Center on Wednesday, February 3rd for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff against the Syracuse Crunch.
