ST. LOUIS (January 30, 2009) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has assigned defenseman Tyson Strachan to the Blues' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Peoria Rivermen. In addition, the club has Peoria recalled forward D.J. King from Peoria.
Strachan, 25, has played in 31 games this season with Peoria, collecting 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) along with 48 penalty minutes. In addition, the 6-2, 215-pound defenseman has played in six games for the Blues this season, recording two assists and four penalty minutes. Strachan made his NHL debut with the Blues last season and has played in a total of 36 career games, notching five assists and 43 penalty minutes.
The Melfort, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by Carolina in the fifth round, 137th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and was signed by the Blues as a free agent on Oct. 9, 2008.
King, 25, played in one game this season on Oct. 24 vs. Dallas, posting five penalty minutes. He has played in nine games with the Rivermen, registering an assist and 11 penalty minutes. The 6-3, 230-pound forward has skated in 90 National Hockey League (NHL) games, all with the Blues, recording nine points (four goals, five assists) along with 157 penalty minutes.
The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 190th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
