January 30, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester)...Goaltender Tyler Plante recorded his first shutout of the season with a 22-save effort and defenseman Clay Wilson chipped in with two points (1+1) as the Rochester Americans defeated the Toronto Marlies 2-0 this afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. With the win, the Amerks improve to 28-17-2-0 and the Marlies fall to 17-22-5-4.
Plante picked up the first star of the night, while Wilson added the second star for Rochester, leading the offense with one goal and one assist. Forward Graham Mink also sealed the deal for the Amerks by scoring the second goal of the game.
Wilson opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the year at 14:57 of the first period, giving the Amerks a 1-0 lead. Evgeny Dadonov and Jamie Johnson both assisted on the goal. With the assist, Johnson extended his point streak to eight games. The Marlies failed to capitalize on a two-man advantage midway through the first as Plante came up big, stopping the first 14 shots he faced.
The Amerks increased their lead by two when Mink scored his 12th goal of the season at 12:43 of the second period, making the score 2-0. Assisting on the play was Wilson, who picked up his second point of the night and defenseman Rory Fitzpatrick.
Defense was key in the third period as Amerks held the Marlies to only eight shots in the second and third period leading to the shut out.
In their next game, Rochester will be back home to face the Adirondack Phantoms on January 31st at The Blue Cross Arena. Face-off is slated for 5:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester Sports Talk. The matchup will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
