KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball has announced that Kansas City T-Bones infielder Rico Washington has been selected as the Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending May 15.
Washington, 32, batted .471/.550/.765 with three doubles, a triple and a league-leading 11 RBI in the season-opening series against the El Paso Diablos. The former St. Louis Cardinal posted multi-hit games in three of the four contests, and drove in at least two runs in each game as well. His best performance came on May 14 when he finished three-for-five with two doubles and five RBI.
Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 1997 amateur draft, Washington spent most of his first 11 professional seasons at the Double-A and Triple-A levels before making his major league debut as a member of the Cardinals' Opening Day roster in 2008.
The T-Bones are 3-1 as they prepare for their home opener on Tuesday, May 17 against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
