Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - Andres Rodriguez homered for the second time in two days with another big seventh inning dinger Tuesday morning to tie the game, but the Shreveport-Bossier Captains gave up one eighth inning run to Sioux City and lost 4-3 at Fair Grounds Field.
Rodriguez's home run came with two outs in the seventh and the Captains trailing 3-2. However, Sioux City would plate the go-ahead run with a single from catcher Ray Serrano in the eighth, scoring T.J. Bohn.
Sioux City scored first off Osvaldo Rodriguez when Serrano hit a solo shot to left in the top of the second. The Captains, however, would take the lead in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double by Mike Provencher and a run-scoring single by Brian Peterson. Sioux City would tie it with another solo home run, this time off the bat of Tyler Goodo in the fifth off Rodriguez. The Explorers took the lead the following inning when Javier Brito, who reached base on a double, took third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Explorer's broke the tie off Captains reliever Justin Young (0-1). Rodriguez went seven innings, allowed six hits and three runs, struck out two and walked two. Sioux City starter Kyle Wright threw seven innings and battled through nine hits, allowing just three runs. Nick Shumacher (0-1) pitched the eighth to pick up the win. The Captains sent the winning run to the plate when Sioux City's Emiliano Frito walked Robert Perry, but Bryan Frichter struck out swinging to end the ball game.
The Captains left nine men on base including the bases loaded in the second and runners on second and third in the third.
Shreveport-Bossier ends their opening-season homestand with a record of 4-3. Next up they hit the road, opening up a three-game series with Amarillo on Friday.
