
RailCats Rally Past Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats spoiled the home opener for the Kansas City T-Bones, stopping a two-game slide with a 6-5 comeback win on the road Tuesday night.
Rico Washington, the American Association Player of the Week, homered over the wall in left to put the T-Bones ahead in the bottom of the third. The homer came with two outs and two strikes. The RailCats, who had left runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, responded in the top of the fourth against Kansas City starter Mike Rocco. Cristian Guerrero drew a walk to open the inning and Kyle Haines connected on an opposite field double with one away.
The T-Bones tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth to grab a 3-2 lead. Aahron Eggleston doubled in the fourth and scored as Brian Joynt singled. Ray Sadler tripled with two outs in the fourth to plate Washington as the RailCats lost the popup in the light.
The lead held until the top of the seventh inning when the RailCats scored four runs, finally chasing Rocco from the game. Johnny Bowden singled up the middle to lead off the inning and scored as Adam Klein doubled to right. Mike Massaro followed with a double to drive in Klein and put the RailCats in front. Jeff Beachum finished off the inning by dropping a two-out single into center to plate a pair.
Kansas City responded against the bullpen in the bottom of the inning. Keanon Simon led off with a double and scored when Jimmy Mojica connected on the second T-Bones homer of the night, a two-run blast to left. The bullpen held the lead for the reaminder of the night though as David Nathanson fired his third 1-2-3 inning to collect his third save in as many attempts, holding the win for Scott Shaw. Shaw twirled six innings and struck out three, allowing three runs on eight hits.
The series with Kansas City (3-2) continues tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. RHP Jack Frawley (0-0, 1.80) makes his second start for the RailCats while Kansas City counters with opening night starter Ryne Reynoso (1-0, 3.60).
