Grand Prairie 4, Lincoln 0
Grand Prairie AirHogs starter Greg Smith was sensational in the 4-0 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs. The lefty tossed a complete game shutout allowing only five hits while fanning nine batters. Smith is now 1-0 on the season with the win. AirHogs 3-4-5 batters of 3B Cesar Nicolas, DH Greg Porter and 1B John Alonso each collected two hits to lead the offense. In the losing effort for Lincoln, leadoff hitter Blake Gailen went 2-for-4.
Sioux City 4, Shreveport-Bossier 3
C Ray Serrano doubled home LF TJ Bohn in the eighth inning to give Sioux City the lead for good in the 4-3 win over the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. Serrano finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Explorers starter Kyle Wright notched the win after allowing three earned runs on nine hits in seven innings of work. Captains 1B Andres Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in the loss.
Winnipeg 2, Sioux Falls 1
Winnipeg's Luis Alen had already had a good night, going 2-3 through the first eight innings. But it was in top of the ninth that the catcher put the exclamation point on his ¬" and his team's ¬" night. With the score tied at one, as it had been most of the night, Alen doubled in teammate Brian Myrow to give the Goldeyes a 2-1 lead that Winnipeg closer Aaron Harstock saved for the victory. Each starting pitcher had left the contest before the game was in hand, and each did well. Sioux Falls starter Ben Moore pitched eight innings, giving up just one run on six hits with eight strikeouts. Goldeyes starting hurler went five shutout innings, striking out five while giving up four hits.
Wichita 3, Fort Worth 1
After walking the bases loaded with his club leading 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Wingnuts reliever Josh Drew toed the rubber and struck out Fort Worth 3B Travis Metcalf on three straight pitches. Witchita starter Nick Singleton shutout Fort Worth over six innings, striking out six, and his relief held onto an inherited two-run lead. The Wingnuts pushed runs across the plate in just one inning Tuesday night, but the three they got in the fourth were more than enough to take care of Fort Worth. Wingnuts 1B Jorge Delgado powered Witchita in the fourth with his only hit of the night, a two-run single that plated Ryan Patterson and Jorge Cortes. Metcalf went 2-4 for the Cats before striking out on the final at-bat of the night.
St. Paul 4, Fargo-Moorhead 2
The Saints were held scoreless over the final seven innings against Fargo-Moorhead. But the four runs St. Paul scored in the first two sufficed for a two-run win against the RedHawks. Already holding a two-run lead on the back of two unearned first-inning runs, St. Paul picked up two more runs on a fielder's choice and an Ole Sheldon single to go on top 4-0. Saints starter Matt S. Long pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering one run on nine hits and two walks while striking out five. Every Fargo-Moorhead batter picked up at least one hit, with RF Michael Coles leading the way with a 2-5 night.
Gary Southshore 6, Kansas City 5
Leading by one run entering the final half-inning, Gary Southshore called on reliever David Nathanson, and he didn't disappoint. The 6-foot-3 native of Maitland Florida retired every batter he faced on just nine pitches with two strikeouts. It was Maitland's third save in as many chances this season. For most of the night, however, the game belonged to the guys at the plate, not the ones toeing the rubber. The clubs combined for 11 extra-base hits, including two homers from Kansas City. But Jimmy Mojica and Rico Washington's round-trippers weren't enough to give the T-Bones a win. For Gary Southshore, Brad Boyer went 2-4 with a double and a run, and Jeff Beachum picked up two RBI to power RailCats.
El Paso 16, Amarillo 10 (In Progress - Top 7)
Six Diablos have multiple hits just two-thirds of the way through their contest with Amarillo. But the Sox have hot batters of their own, plating 10 runners through six-plus frames. A six-run deficit could be too much to overcome. But it appears as though anything could happen on this night.
