Wichita Wingnuts News Release
FORT WORTH, TX- The Wichita Wingnuts won 3-1 over the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Field on Tuesday night.
Nick Singleton tossed six shutout innings to earn the win, while Josh Dew notched his league-leading fourth save with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
With the game tied 0-0, Ryan Patterson opened the fourth inning with a single to center field against former Wingnuts' right-hander Derek Blacksher. Jorge Cortes and Juan Richardson followed with consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs. Jorge Delgado jumped on a first pitch and lined a two-run single to left field to break the scoreless tie. Later in the inning, Edwin Bellorin added an RBI single through the right side to make it 3-0.
In the bottom half of the inning, two singles and a walk allowed the Cats to load the bases with no outs. Singleton recovered though, striking out Cory Morales and Jeremy Sauceda back-to-back, and then retiring Brian Fryer on a popup to first base to escape the inning unscathed.
Singleton struck out six and scattered five hits en route to his second win of the season.
Sauceda cut the lead to 3-1 with a leadoff home run in the seventh against Jared Simon, but Simon recovered and ended the inning without further damage.
Cephas Howard bounced back from Sunday evening at Amrillo, working a perfect eighth that included a strikeout of Kelley Gulledge.
The Cats loaded the bases against Dew in the ninth, but the Wingnuts' right-hander struck out former Major Leaguer Travis Metcalf on three pitches to strand the tying and winning runs on base.
