Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem Warthogs first baseman Brandon Allen was recently named to the 2008 Carolina League All-Star team. The left-handed slugger is the lone representative from the Warthogs to be included on the roster from the eight-team league. The annual California-Carolina League All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Allen, a fifth round selection of the Chicago White Sox in 2004, is currently hitting .292 with 10 home runs and a team-high 33 RBI. The Conroe, Texas native is second in the league with 33 extra-base hits, third in slugging percentage (.565) and tied for fourth with 19 doubles.

This will be the 12th year the two Advanced Class-A leagues will square off in the prestigious event. Last year, the California League claimed a 10-5 win over the Carolina League in a contest held in Stockton, CA. Three Warthogs were named to the 2007 squad, including outfielder Aaron Cunningham, who went 3-for-3 at the plate. Despite its loss a year ago, the Carolina League still leads the series 5-4 with two games ending in a tie.
