THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg won their third straight game last night to match their longest winning streak of the season with a 5-3 victory over Myrtle Beach in the opening game of a three-game series...Tonight the Cats play the fifth game of a six-game road trip...They are 3-1 on the trip coming into tonight...

VS. MYRTLE BEACH: Last season the Hillcats won the series series against the Pelicans 12-8...Myrtle Beach holds the all-time advantage 100-85 and are 54-40 against the Cats on the Grand Strand...This season the Birds are 4-3 against the Cats...

ROBERTS TO THE RESCUE: RHP Kevin Roberts recorded his fourth save of the season in as many opportunities last night by tossing a scoreless ninth...He earned his third save of the season by tossing two perfect innings of relief on Saturday night...Roberts arrived on the scene with men on the corners and nobody out with the Hillcats clinging to a one-run lead...The righthander struckout the first two men he faced and retired all six men who came to the plate against him...

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES: The Hillcats and Pelicans combined to leave 22 men on base last night...There were only two 1-2-3 innings between the two teams...

CATS TAKE THE SERIES: With their 8-3 victory Sunday afternoon the Hillcats earned their first series win since May 5-7 when they took two-out-of-three from Winston-Salem at City Stadium...In the eight series since then Lynchburg had gone 0-6-2...This season the Cats are 4-12-2 in their 18 series this year...

CRUISE CONTROL: RHP Michael Crotta retired 18 consecutive batters during his start on Sunday...Crotta only allowed two hits and one run in a season-high six and 2/3 innings of work in picking up his fifth win of the season...The righthander retired the first 18 he faced in his first start of the season...

GONE GONZO: Last night 2B Angel Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run last night...Over his last three games the swith-hitter has gone 9-for-14 (.643) with five runs scored...On Saturday he collected four hits in a game for the third time this season and hit his first home run of the season (fourth of his career)...He has now riding a six-game hitting streak and over that stretch he is 13-for-26 (.500) and over his last 13 games Gonzalez is 24-for-59 (.407)...

K-LESS: Last Friday night Lynchburg pitcher's failed to record a strikeout in a game for the first time all season...

BLASTED: Last Thursday night Lynchburg allowed a season-high 16 runs and 23 hits to Potomac in their most lopsided loss of the season...Potomac previously held the mark for most hits off Lynchburg when they pounded 21 hits on May 27th at Pfitzner Stadium in a 13-5 victory...Last season the Hillcats allowed a team-high 22 runs on 24 hits at Kinston on August 22nd...

SECOND OVERALL PICK: Thursday the Pittsburgh Pirates selected 3B Pedro Alvarez with the second overall selection in the 2008 first year player draft...In three seasons at Vanderbilt the slugger collected a combined 49 homers and 160 RBI...Last season the Pirates selected LHP Daniel Moskos with their first-round pick (fourth overall)...Last Wednesday night Moskos improved to 4-3 by tossing six scoreless innings for the win...
