November 12, 2018 - BASEBALL Carolina League: The new Fayetteville (NC) team in the high Class-A Carolina League announced it will be called the Fayetteville Woodpeckers when it starts play at a new downtown ballpark in 2019. The team has been playing as the Buies Creek Astros at nearby Campbell University for the past two seasons as it waited for completion of the new ballpark. Former Keys Player/Hitting Coach Figueroa Joins Phillies Coaching Staff

November 7, 2018 - FREDERICK, MD - On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies hired former Frederick Keys Hitting Coach, Paco Figueroa, to be the team's Outfield and Baserunning Coach. Figueroa joins the Phillies from the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he served as the organization's Minor League Hitting Coordinator. It marks Figueroa's first Major League assignment as a coach or player. Figueroa, 35, is reunited with his former boss, now Phillies manager, Gabe Kapler. Knock, knock: Introducing the Woodpeckers

November 4, 2018 - In 2019, after a 17-year absence, Minor League Baseball is returning to Fayetteville, North Carolina. As of Sunday, the city's new team has a name: the Woodpeckers. The Fayetteville Woodpeckers spent the previous two seasons playing as the Buies Creek Astros, who operated out of Campbell University's Jim Perry Stadium. The move to Fayetteville coincides with the opening of a new ballpark, scheduled to be completed in March. Cubs, Pelicans Extend PDC Agreement

October 31, 2018 - MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Chicago Cubs today announced the organization has agreed on a two-year Player Development Contract extension with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans through the 2022 season. The announcement also included extensions for Triple-A Iowa, Double-A Tennessee, and Single-A South Bend. Single-A Eugene signed a four-year extension through 2022, announced this past August.
