Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - Three Wilmington Blue Rocks are headed to BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach, SC, as the Carolina League released its 2008 All-Star selections on Tuesday. Outfielder Joe Dickerson, left-handed starter Everett Teaford and relief pitcher Tyler Chambliss are among the 23 players from eight league teams that will represent the circuit in the annual California-Carolina League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 24.

The lone Blue Rocks position player to be voted onto this year's squad, Dickerson has been Wilmington's offensive leader as well as one of the most consistent forces in the league thus far. Presently, the Yorba Linda, CA native paces the Blue Rocks team with a .314 batting average, 66 base hits, seven triples, 35 RBIs, and an OPS of .889. Dickerson ranks fourth the league in batting and is second with 23 stolen bases. He has started 54 games in right field for Wilmington, committing just one error while recording four assists. Dickerson hit .289 with three home runs and 43 RBIs for Low-A Burlington in 2007.

Teaford has been among the league's ERA leaders for most of the season, currently ranking eighth entering play on June 10. The former Georgia Southern University star is 4-1 with one save and a 2.73 ERA through 13 games (eight starts). The left-hander has spent the majority of the season within the confines of a piggybacking situation with teammate Greg Holland, thereby limiting the number of starts he has logged. Teaford has struck out 47 batters and walked 18 in 62.2 innings. He is holding league batters to a .213 average. Last season at Low-A Burlington, Teaford went 6-8 with a 4.68 ERA in 27 games (21 starts).

A product of Florida State University, Chambliss has emerged as Wilmington's bullpen anchor. He is 2-0 with a 3.03 ERA in 19 relief appearances and leads the Blue Rocks staff with nine saves, ranking him fourth among league hurlers. Chambliss, who split time between Low-A Burlington and Wilmington in 2007, is the lone returning Blue Rock to be chosen for the Carolina League squad this season. He went 5-3 with two saves a 4.35 ERA in 17 games for the Rocks last year. Prior to his promotion, Chambliss was a Midwest League All-Star for the Bees.

This year marks the 12th installment of the exhibition clash between the two Advanced Class-A leagues. Last season, the California League doubled-up their Carolina counterparts, 10-5, in a contest played in Stockton, CA. Wilmington left-hander Rowdy Hardy was the starting pitcher for the Carolina League and one of five Blue Rocks to make the squad. Despite last year's setback, the Carolina League still leads the series, 5-4. Two games have ended in ties since the series' inception in 1996.

The Blue Rocks return to the Wilmington Riverfront on Thursday, June 12 for a 7:05 p.m. clash with the Winston-Salem Warthogs. The Rocks play four with the ‘Hogs to begin a eight-day, seven-game homestand.
