Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, Va.- For the second time during the Nationals current seven-game home stand, rain impaired the team's ability to finish a game. A night after Potomac clinched a playoff berth by winning the Carolina League Northern Division, game two of their three-game series with Winston-Salem was suspended until tomorrow night due to intermittent thunderstorms. The game was tied 0-0 after three complete innings.
The two teams matched one another zero-for-zero for three frames before a second rain delay finally put an end to action for the evening. P-Nats starter Jeff Mandel was making his second start with the Nationals this season after getting called up from Low-A Hagerstown. The right-hander pitched well, notching two strikeouts while allowing only two hits over his three innings.
Play will resume tomorrow night at Pfitzner Stadium with a doubleheader. Tonight's suspended game will pick up in the top of the fourth inning with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and will be completed in its entirety with nine innings. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game and will be seven innings. Fans who bought tickets for tomorrow's game are eligible for both games.
For the second consecutive series, Potomac will play a doubleheader to close out a home stand. Tomorrow's games will wrap up the Nationals seven-game, six-day home stand. Craig Stammen (2-2, 2.08), who was recently selected as a 2008 Carolina League All-Star is slated to start for Potomac opposite righty Matt Long (3-7, 5.01) for Winston-Salem in game two.
