Kinston Indians News Release

The Kinston Indians won their fourth game in a row, winning 3-2 against the Salem Avalanche Tuesday night in Virginia. All four wins have been by one run for the K-Tribe.

Kinston opened the scoring in the first inning, thanks to a two-run single by Niuman Romero scoring Johnny Drennen and Beau Mills. Salem came back with a run in the bottom of the first, then tied things up with a RBI single by Jimmy Van Ostrand in the third. K-Tribe starter Hector Rondon then settled down retiring the next seven in a row and striking out six on the evening.

The Indians got things going in the sixth with a leadoff hit from Jared Goedert. He advanced to second on a fielder's choice and then to third on a wild pitch. Cirilo Cumberbatch drove Goedert in with his team high fourth sacrifice fly RBI to put Kinston on top for good. Rondon (3-3) left with the lead after five picking up his third win in his last four starts.

The K-Tribe bullpen nailed things down too, going three innings and only allowing two hits, including a scoreless eighth inning from Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Jim Deters. Luis Perdomo struck out the side in the ninth for his CL-leading 14th save.

The Indians have not lost a series since the middle of May, and look for their second sweep on the season in the finale of the three game set tomorrow night at 7:07. Staff wins leader Carlton Smith (4-3, 4.06) takes the hill for the K-Tribe.
