Walleye Shut Down by Wheeling 4-0

(Wheeling, WV) Toledo out shot Wheeling 30-27 but the Nailers held the Walleye off of the scoreboard in 4-0 loss Tuesday night at Wheeling. Toledo has an overall record of 41-18-2-3 and 17-11-2-2 on the road. The Walleye will be in Fort Wayne on Friday night.

An even first period of play saw the Walleye out shoot the Nailers 10-9 but Wheeling scored a power play goal at 7:54 to lead 1-0. An early power play for Toledo got the offense going as they picked up chance after chance in the period. Toledo finished the second period with 13 shots on goal many of those outstanding scoring opportunities but Wheeling goaltender Brian Foster held the Walleye off the board through two periods.

Wheeling made it 2-0 when John McCarron slid a shot past Jeff Lerg just 24 seconds into the third period. The Nailers made it 3-0 with an even strength goal at 16:37 and then capped the scoring with an empty net goal at 19:08.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced and his record is 26-9-1-2 on the season. Toledo has a record of 4-2-0 against Wheeling this season.
