Shantz Selected as CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Princeton, NJ - The Wichita Thunder, proud member of the ECHL and powered by Toyota, is excited to announce that goaltender David Shantz has been selected as the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 14-20. It is the fifth time in his career that he has received the weekly honor. This is the first weekly honor for the Thunder since joining the ECHL.

The 29-year-old went 2-0-0 with a 1.51 goals-against average and a save percentage of .962 in two appearances last week.

Shantz stopped 36 shots in a 5-1 win against Alaska on Wednesday and made 40 saves in a 4-2 victory over Missouri on Saturday.

A native of Burlington, Ontario, Shantz has appeared in 35 games for the Thunder this season, posting a record of 11-20-3 with a 3.07 goals-against average and a save percentage of .897.

Shantz was a second-round selection (37th overall) of the Florida Panthers during the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in 194 games during his ECHL career, posting an overall record of 93-74-18 with seven shutouts, a 2.89 goals-against average and a save percentage of .905. He has also appeared in 60 career American Hockey League games with Rochester and Abbotsford.

Shantz spent the 2014-15 season with the University of New Brunswick where he went 18-5-0 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a save percentage of .897.

Wichita has the week off before hosting the Quad City Mallards on Saturday, March 26th at 7:05 p.m.
