VooDoo announce 2007 schedule

November 29, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release

The New Orleans VooDoo announced their 2007 regular season schedule today. The VooDoo will kick off their third season when they travel to the Utah Blaze on March 2. The team will host the Columbus Destroyers in their home opener on Friday, March 9 at the New Orleans Arena. The broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.

The VooDoo will play games against eight 2006 playoff teams (Austin Wranglers, Dallas Desperados, Georgia Force, New York Dragons, Orlando Predators, Philadelphia Soul, San Jose SaberCats and Utah Blaze). They will play home-and-home series' with their four Southern Division rivals; Austin, Georgia, Orlando and Tampa Bay.

"We have an outstanding home schedule, which will provide a lot of fun and excitement for our fans," said VooDoo Owner / Executive Vice-President Rita Benson LeBlanc "It is our intention to provide them with an action-packed gameday experience as we look to build a championship team."

In an opening weekend match up, the VooDoo will make their season debut on March 2 at the Delta Center against the Utah Blaze, who New Orleans QB Andy Kelly led to the playoffs in 2006. New Orleans then hosts the Columbus Destroyers in their home opener on March 9. This will mark the VooDoo's return to the New Orleans Arena, after the team was forced to suspend operations in 2006 due to Hurricane Katrina.

The following weekend, the VooDoo will travel to Las Vegas to face the Gladiators on March 18.

Some of the other highlights of the 2007 schedule include:

- The VooDoo will play two other AFL teams operated by NFL owners; Georgia Force (Arthur Blank - Atlanta Falcons) and the Dallas Desperados (Jerry Jones - Dallas Cowboys).

- The VooDoo will play on a Monday night twice, a first for the team. They will make their first appearance on Monday night on May 21 at Philadelphia and will host New York at the New Orleans Arena on May 28.

- The VooDoo will face three teams for the first time in franchise history; the Utah Blaze, the Los Angeles Avengers and the New York Dragons.

- In a key season ending stretch, the VooDoo will play three of their last five games in the friendly confines of the New Orleans Arena.

- New Orleans faces only one team that had a losing record in 2006 (Tampa Bay) after the fourth week of the season.

"We are excited as a team about the 2007 season," said VooDoo Coach Mike Neu. "We have a great, competitive schedule and the Southern Division has always been one of the toughest in the league. It will be a challenge for us that we have been anticipating for two years now."
