Soul announce 2007 schedule

PHILADELPHIA - The Arena Football League and the Philadelphia Soul have finalized their schedule for the 2007 season. The 2007 campaign will begin with the Soul on a bye during Week 1 followed by two road games against the Nashville Kats and the Grand Rapids Rampage. This will kickoff the 21st season for the AFL.

The Soul, who are coming off their best season in their three-year history after making the postseason and advancing to the National Conference Divisional round, will play their home opener on Thursday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m. against the Colorado Crush at the Wachovia Center.

"We are excited about the starting point for the upcoming season and this lets us start showcasing 'Fun, Family, Football' for 2007," General Manager Rich Lisk said. "Now that we have our schedule, we look forward to releasing our promotion and community initiatives that will only add to the excitement of Soul football in the coming weeks."

After opening with a bye, the Soul will play six of eight games on the road, including trips to Nashville (March 9), Grand Rapids (March 15), New York (April 1), Dallas (April 16), Columbus (April 23) and against the defending ArenaBowl champion Chicago Rush (April 30).

While the Soul have home and away contests against divisional opponents Columbus, Dallas and New York, they will also face Kansas City (May 5), New Orleans (May 21) and Orlando (June 21) at home. Other games the Soul will have to travel for will be against Austin (May 27) and Tampa Bay (June 9).

"We have our work cut out for us with six of our first eight games on the road," head coach Bret Munsey said. "With a good camp and experienced AFL players, we will be ready for the challenge."

The upcoming season has the Soul preparing for a spread out schedule with games on Thursdays (3), Fridays (2), Saturdays (3), Sundays (2) and Mondays (6). In addition, our home games will start at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and Saturdays and at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Monday contests.

During five of the eight home games select groups will be recognized with theme nights. On Thursday, March 22 when the Crush come to town it will be College Night while Saturday, May 5 will be Youth Football Night when the Brigade enter the Wachovia Center. Heroes Night is going to occur on Monday, May 21 when the Soul host the VooDoo for the first time since the season opener in 2004. Friday, June 1 against the Desperados will be Church Night and on Saturday, June 16 against the Destroyers it will be Scout Night. The 2007 schedule contains a bye week because of the re-entry into the League of the New Orleans VoodDoo creating a total of 19 teams.
