Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm announced their schedule for the 2007 season presented by Champs Sports, Where Sport Lives today. The highlight is when the Storm kickoff the season at home against former quarterback Shane Stafford and the Orlando Predators.
The 'War on I-4' gets an early start this season as the Storm face their in-state rival and 2006 National Conference Champion Orlando Predators in their first game of the season as Stafford returns to the St. Pete Times Forum on Friday, March 2. The teams will meet in Orlando on April 14. Tampa Bay has won five of the last eight against the Predators and is 19-20 all-time.
Other key dates include a March 10 showdown at the Dallas Desperados, the 2006 Eastern Division Champions and an April 30 match-up against the Columbus Destroyers. The March 10 game features former Desperado Terrill Shaw's return to American Airlines Arena while the April 30 tilt features Columbus' first visit to the St. Pete Times Forum as John Kaleo leads the Storm against his former team. Shaw signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent this off-season and led the Desperados with 111 receptions, 1,498 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns last season. The Storm acquired Kaleo, the Storm's third all-time leading passer, through an off-season trade with the Destroyers.
Tampa Bay will face division rival and 2006 playoff team Georgia on March 17 at the St. Pete Times Forum and May 26 at Philips Arena. The two teams split their meetings last season in two shootouts, a 61-60 Storm victory and a 61-51 Force win. On April 7 the Storm will welcome back fellow division rival New Orleans and then travel to New Orleans on June 2. The Storm are 2-2 all-time against the VooDoo and won their last meeting 47-36 on April 30, 2005.
The Storm will play four of their first six games at the St. Pete Times Forum with games against Orlando, Georgia, New York and New Orleans. They will play four of five games on road spanning from Week 10 at Austin to Week 14 at New Orleans.
