November 29, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers and the Arena Football League announced the 2007 regular season schedule today and the Destroyers will kickoff their ninth season and fourth in Columbus against the Nashville Kats Thursday, Mar. 1. Kickoff at the Gaylord Entertainment Center is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and will mark the first game on the AFL slate for the 2007 season. This will mark the fourth time in eight campaigns that the Destroyers have started an AFL season on the road.

The 17-week schedule includes eight home games, eight away games and one bye week spanning 115 days. The regular season culminates on Saturday, June 23, on the road against division rival New York Dragons with the ArenaBowl XXI playoffs to begin the following week.

As members of the National Conference Eastern Division, the Destroyers will face each of their division rivals - Dallas, New York and Philadelphia - twice. Columbus opens up the divisional schedule on Thursday, Apr. 5, as they visit the Dallas Desperados at American Airlines Arena for a showdown scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Twelve of the Destroyers 16 games come against 2006 playoff opponents.

The schedule will be a test for the 2007 Destroyers for second-year head coach Doug Kay and with the recent additions of ArenaBowl XIX quarterback Matt Nagy, former Ohio State University standout wide receiver Tony Locke and the Destroyers leading receiver from 2005 Damien Groce. The squad looks to be a part of the playoff mix come July in their first ever playoff appearance following their best season ever in 2006 finishing with a record of 8-8.

The Destroyers will play the New Orleans VooDoo in the first game AFL game played in New Orleans since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina on Friday, Mar. 9 at 8 p.m. The return of the VooDoo will shift the Kansas City Brigade to the Central Division in the American Conference after spending a season in the Southern Division of the National Conference. The VooDoo will move into the Southern Division. The 2007 schedule also has a special Monday night game on April 23 against the Philadelphia Soul at Nationwide Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on national television.
