Los Angeles Avengers announce 2007 schedule
November 29, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Avengers have finalized their 2007 schedule and will kick off their eighth season of play in the 21-year-old Arena Football League versus the San Jose SaberCats on Sunday, March 4, at STAPLES Center.
The season opener, which features the past two Western Division champions -- Los Angeles in 2005 and San Jose in 2006 -- will kick off at 7 p.m.
The Avengers' 16-game regular-season schedule is highlighted by a home-and-home series with the defending ArenaBowl world champion Chicago Rush, who will host L.A. on April 1, at All State Arena and visit STAPLES Center on June 2.
In addition to the season opener versus the SaberCats and the home clash against the Rush, the Avengers also will host six other teams at STAPLES Center, as the Arizona Rattlers (April 6), Grand Rapids Rampage (April 28), Tampa Bay Storm (May 12), Georgia Force (May 19), Las Vegas Gladiators (June 17) and Utah Blaze (June 23) come to Los Angeles.
In Week 4, the Avengers will hit the road for their first meeting with the New Orleans VooDoo on March 12. The VooDoo, who are in their third season of play in the AFL, took a one-year hiatus last season due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.
Five of L.A.'s eight home games will be played on Saturday night with kickoff at STAPLES Center set for 7:30 p.m. Each Avenger home game will feature promotional giveaways, pregame fireworks and postgame autograph sessions.
All 19 AFL teams will play a 16-game schedule over 17 weeks with each team receiving one bye week (L.A.'s comes in Week 3). For the second consecutive year, 12 teams will advance to the AFL Playoffs, which will begin with the Wild Card Round on June 29. ArenaBowl XXI will be played on July 29.
The AFL's national, regional and local television packages will be announced shortly.
Avenger season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-888-AVENGERS.
