Avengers to pick third and sixth in AFL Dispersal Draft on Oct. 21

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Avengers currently own the third and sixth selections in the 2009 Arena Football League Dispersal Draft, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. (PT). The pool of players available to be drafted consists of players under contract with the New Orleans VooDoo franchise, which announced on Monday that it was ceasing operation.
Proven AFL veterans such as defensive lineman Henry Bryant, wide receiver Derrick Lewis and defensive back Lin-J Shell are among the players available, along with 2008 All-Rookie linebacker Norman LeJeune and former Avenger defensive lineman/linebacker Michale Spicer.
The draft order is based on 2008 regular-season records and previous trades. The Avengers acquired the sixth pick from the Utah Blaze on March 27, in a trade for defensive back Eddie Canonico.
The draft will be conducted via telephone conference and will consist of an unlimited number of rounds until all eligible players are selected or all teams in a round pass. A maximum of five minutes per selection is allowed in each round. Trades between teams may occur at any time prior to or during the draft. All undrafted players will become free agents.
The Avengers' 10th season of play in the AFL will kick off in late February.
Fifty dollar deposits for 2009 Avenger season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are now being accepted at 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
