The 2005 event will kick off with the Large School West squad facing the Small School West team at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday. Following that game the Large School East will take on the Small School East. Sixty-four high school seniors combine to make up the four squads.
Eastern Iowa area schools classified as âlarge' are the three Cedar Rapids high schools (Washington, Jefferson and Kennedy), Prairie, Xavier, Linn-Mar, Marion, and Vinton-Shellsburg. Remaining area schools with participants in the game will play in the small school classification.
Friday's games, also scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., feature the Small School East vs. Large School West followed by Small School West vs. Large School East.
On Saturday the two small school groups will meet one another at 11 a.m. followed by the large schools. Sunday the two teams with the poorest records will meet at 11 a.m. followed by the two teams with the best overall records.
In addition to the actual games a number of events are planned for the players involved in the event during their four day stay in Cedar Rapids. An All-Star Banquet honoring the players will be held at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
A trio of area high school coaches are involved in the event. Iowa City West's Tom Cronk and Jefferson's Gordy Nordgren are assistant coaches for the Large School East squad while Ed-Co's Mike Putz will head up the Small School East team.
