South Bend, IN - The performances of the 2005 South Bend Silver Hawks continue to shine through a season that has been very good to date. The Hawks still own the best record in the Midwest League and today, several players on the Silver Hawks owned several of the top numbers for the month of July.
Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who has 14 home runs on the season, clubbed half of his home runs in the seventh month of the calendar year. Gonzalez also finished the month with 21 runs knocked in, while hitting .304 for the month and a slugging percentage of.596, which was second best for the month.
Cesar Nicolas, who was fourth in the Midwest League in extra base hits with 15, led the Silver Hawks in that department and drove in 14 runs, which was behind Gonzalez and Jereme Milons who was third in RBI on the team for the month with 18.
Koley Kolberg led all hurlers in the league throwing 39 innings for the month, while Chris Kinsey was the best starter for the Silver Hawks during the month, going 3-0 as well as having the best ERA among the starters at 3.06.
After a quick four game trip to play the Wisconsin Timberrattlers, the Silver Hawks (63-45) return home Saturday for a four game series with the Lansing Lugnuts (54-53). Saturday's are Meijer Family Fun Saturday with Sunny 101.5 - Pick up a discount voucher at Meijer and receive 4 box seat tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 Pepsi products and a game program for just $24.00. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM.
