Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors announced today the signing of right wing Dennis Shiryaev, and the release of five players who attended training camp.
Shiryaev, 27, enters his seventh season as a pro and brings 111 points and 1,143 penalty minutes to the roster. The 6'1", 200-pound native of Kharkov, Ukraine, came to the Condors last year via trade with the former Louisiana IceGators. While with the Condors, Shiryaev posted career highs in goals (12), assists (16) and points (28) in 55 games.
Prior to arriving in Bakersfield, Shiryaev spent three seasons with the Louisiana IceGators, helping them to the Kelly Cup Playoffs twice and appearing in 14 postseason games. In 2003-04, Shiryaev collected a career-high 259 penalty minutes in 42 games with Louisiana, despite missing 30 games with a torn bicep. He has also spent time with the Fort Worth Brahmas and the Corpus Christi IceRays, both now members of the Central Hockey League. The right winger has two AHL appearances to his credit with the Houston Aeros in 2002-03.
Shiryaev has over 260 professional games under his belt and is classified by the ECHL as a veteran. Bakersfield now has the maximum of four veterans on the roster. Shiryaev joins Kevin St. Jacques, Michel Massie and Sean Venedam as the Condors veterans.
"We like his toughness. He's proven he can play in this league," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "He can score goals, and he's an irritant to other teams. He can play a major part on our club with those qualities."
The Condors also announced the release of LW Nathan Daly, D Marcus Falkheden, LW Jaakko Kallio, and LW Nobumasa Kinugasa. G Jamie McCaig did not pass a required physical and has also been released.
Individual tickets are now on sale for the Condors October 15th pre-season match against the Fresno Falcons. Tickets are available the Rabobank Arena Box Office, open from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525 or ordering online at bakersfieldcondors.com.
The Bakersfield Condors open their 2005-06 ECHL season in 12 days at home on October 22nd against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
