Titans pick up Byers and Sokol

TRENTON, NJ (October 10, 2005) - The Trenton Titans announced on Monday that they have agreed to terms with forward Jimmy Sokol and defenseman Cole Byers for the 2005-06 season.

Sokol, 26, enters his rookie season after finishing his college career at Utica College where he led the club in scoring with 13 goals and 17 assists in 27 games. For his efforts, the Webberville, Michigan native was named the ECAC West Player of the Year, selected All-ECAC West First Team and earned All-East Second-Team CCM All-American honors as chosen by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA). Sokol, 5'9", 179-lbs, concluded his four years with the Pioneers as their all-time leader in points (129), goals (58), and assists (71).

Byers, 22, split 18 games last season between the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL and Quebec RadioX and Sorel-Tracy Mission of the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. Now a second-year pro, Byers skated in 2003-04 with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League. There, the 6' 3, 210-pounder from Nipawin, Saskatchewan native, led his team with 235 penalty minutes while also totaling 15 points (2g, 13a) in 52 games.
