PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL officially opened their inaugural training camp this morning with introductory meetings and physicals at America West Arena. The RoadRunners will hit the ice for the first time under General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion at 10AM tomorrow at Arcadia Ice Arena in Phoenix.
Twenty-four players will be looking to solidify their place on the opening night roster and become a part of history when the RoadRunners play their first ever ECHL game on October 21 at Utah.
Highlighting the RoadRunners training camp roster is eight-year veteran forward Dean Tiltgen, who has tallied 175 goals and 378 points in 438 career games. Other notable names include goaltender Mathieu Chouinard, a former first round draft choice of the Ottawa Senators and the only RoadRunners' player with NHL experience; forward Cory Pecker, who was the 2002 Overage Player of the Year in the prestigious junior Ontario Hockey League; and rookie goaltender Mike Mole, who earned an invitation to an NHL training camp this year as part of The Sports Network's (Canada) reality television series "Making the Cut", which aired in the Fall of 2004.
Including Mole, 12 rookies will be hoping to commence their first full season in Phoenix. These first-year players include forwards Chris Hodgson, Jarrett Konkle, Adam Kostichka, Matthew Little, Craig MacDonald, and Shawn Snider; and defensemen Taylor Christie, Dusty Demianiuk, John Fieweger, Chris Mann and Brad Woods.
