
Royals sign UHL Rookie of the Year, Mike Kompon

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the NHL¡¯s Los Angeles Kings and AHL¡¯s Manchester Monarchs, today announced the signing of forward, Mike Kompon.
The 23 year-old Kompon had a break out season with the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League last year, racking up thirty-nine goals and ninety points in seventy-seven games to lead the team and all UHL rookies in goals, assists (51) and points. Kompon was selected as the league¡¯s Rookie of the Year for his efforts. Kompon, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, turned pro after four successful seasons at Miami University of Ohio, where he scored 49 goals and amassed 138 points in 153 total games, which places him tied for fifth in school history in total points. In his senior season, Kompon served as the captain of the RedHawks and was selected to the second team All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association team. With the Royals, Kompon joins his former Miami University linemate, Greg Hogeboom.
Royals¡¯ Coach Karl Taylor was pleased with the Kompon signing. ¡°We¡¯re extremely happy to have signed Mike. He obviously put up good numbers in the UHL last year, and we¡¯re hopeful that we can build on his past successes and have him be an integral part of our team¡¯s attack this season.¡±
In a separate transaction, the Royals announced that forward Chris Bala was loaned to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
The Royals will begin the 2005-06 season with a pair of preseason games against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Trenton Titans. On Saturday, October 15 the two clubs will meet in Monmouth, New Jersey, then battle again two days later on Monday, October 17 in the Body Zone Sports and Fitness Complex.
The Royals 5th Anniversary Season officially begins at home in the Sovereign Center on Saturday, October 29 against the Titans. The Royals will raise the North Division regular season championship banner prior to the drop of the puck.
