Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Veteran defenseman Joel Bouchard has been assigned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by their parent club, the New York Islanders, for conditioning. Bouchard, who has played in 364 National Hockey League games during parts of 11 seasons, will join the Sound Tigers for their game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, Nov. 15 (at 11 a.m. at the Arena at Harbor Yard).

Bouchard, a 6-foot-1, 209-pound native of Montreal, was selected by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round, 129th overall, in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. In 2005-06, Bouchard led the Islanders in plus/minus with a rating of +5 and was second on the team in average time on the ice (21:56 per game). The defenseman played 15 games with the Sound Tigers last season and compiled four goals and nine assists for 13 points with the Islanders' top affiliate. Bouchard began his professional career with the former Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League in 1993-94 and played in 16 Calder Cup playoff games with the Flames in 1995-96. He's played for the NHL's Calgary Flames, as well as Nashville, Dallas, Phoenix, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, the New York Rangers and Islanders - and has registered 22 goals and 53 assists for 75 points in his 364 NHL games.

Bouchard captured the gold medal with Team Canada in the 1997 International Ice Hockey Federation World Hockey Championships. He also won gold medals in the 1993 and '94 World Junior Championships.
