Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped all 20 of the shots he faced recording his second shutout of the season and fourth win in as many starts, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-0 victory over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum. With the win, Hamilton moves into second place in the North Division standings with an overall record of 7-6-0-1.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 first period lead by scoring their fastest two goals in franchise history. Kyle Chipchura opened the scoring at the 14:46 mark with a low backhand shot that fooled Omaha netminder Brent Krahn. Just seven seconds later, Jonathan Ferland scored to break the club's previous record of two goals in eight seconds set by Jason Chimera and Jani Rita on Dec. 9, 2001 against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Ferland's goal was his fourth of the season and made the score 2-0.
Back-up goaltender Curtis McElhinney replaced Krahn between the pipes for Omaha immediately following the Bulldogs' second goal. McElhinney played the remainder of the opening frame but Krahn returned at the start of the second period and finished the game in goal for the Knights.
Mathieu Aubin rounded out the first period scoring with his second goal of the season at 18:53 to put the 'Dogs up 3-0. Michael Lambert and Corey Locke both assisted on the power-play goal.
Hamilton increased its lead in the second period when Michael Lambert netted his third goal of the season. Maxim Lapierre recovered the puck behind the Knights' net and fed a pass to Lambert who made no mistake to make the score 4-0.
The Bulldogs added a late goal with 1:02 left in the game, courtesy of Mikhail Grabovski. Grabovski was stopped on the first attempt but tapped in his own rebound for his third goal of the season.
Jaroslav Halak moved into a third-place tie in all-time Bulldogs shutouts with five in 19 career AHL games.
The Bulldogs next game is on Friday, November 17th at 8:05 p.m. when they take on the Iowa Stars at the Wells Fargo Arena. The Bulldogs return home on Tuesday, November 21st at 7:30 p.m. to take on their Division rival the Manitoba Moose at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for all 'Dogs home games (except home game #32) are available at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.ca, or through charge-by-phone at 905-527-7666.
