Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Grand Rapids, MI-When the Milwaukee Admirals topped the Peoria Rivermen last Saturday, rookie sensation Alexander Radulov was held without a point for the first time in a game this year with the Admirals.
Cleary the young forward didn't want that to happen again.
Radulov tied an Admirals' franchise record with six points in one game, as he picked up a goal and assisted on five others, and led an offensive barrage by the Admirals as they defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 8-1 in a mid-day affair at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The record he tied is held by many players, but it had not happened since the team joined the AHL in the 2001-02 season. The last player to hit the six-point plateau was Tony Hrkac, who had six assists versus the Detroit Vipers on February 3rd, 1995.
The win was the third straight for the Admirals and took them above the .500 mark for the first time this season as they improved their record to 5-4-1 on the year. It also marked the first time in ten-plus years of games at the Van Andel Arena that the Ads had won three straight games in the Griffs' house. The Admirals won the final game of the 2005-06 season there and have won their first two meetings thus far this season.
The first half of the game was actually rather ho-hum. Radulov's power-play tally at the 15:50 mark of the first period was the only goal for the first 29 minutes of the contest, and then the flood gates opened. The Admirals scored three goals in the final 10:46 of the second period to take a 4-1 lead after two, and then scored four more times in the third, the last two coming off the stick of defenseman Kevin Klein.
The offensive outburst was particularly surprising because the Admirals had scored just ten goals in their previous five games combined. It was the first time that they had scored at least eight goals in a game since hanging a nine-spot on the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks on November 18th, 2004.
In addition to Radulov's performance, ten other Admirals found their way onto the scoresheet, including five of them who posted multi-point games. Cal O'Reilly had a four-point effort with a goal and three assists, while Klein and Sheldon Brookbank each lit the lamp twice. Ville Koistenen added a goal and an assist and John Vigilante chipped in with two helpers.
The Admirals will try to extend their winning streak to four games this Wednesday night at the Bradley Center they take on the Houston Aeros at 7:00 pm. Fans can purchase tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (414) 276-4545 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more people receive a minimum of $2 off of each ticket. For more information or to order group tickets call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550.
