Abbotsford Heat News Release
The Hamilton Bulldogs rode a three-goal scoring burst late in the first period to a 5-0 win over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum. The Knights finished their four game road trip with a 2-2-0-0 record. Both losses were to the Bulldogs.
The first ten minutes of the first period were fairly uneventful, but the game turned in a hurry. Hamilton's Kyle Chipchura scored his first professional goal, beating Brent Krahn through the five hole at 14:46.
Just seven seconds later, Jonathan Ferland walked down the left wing and beat Krahn with what looked like an innocent wrist shot to make it 2-0.
The Knights' Andrei Taratukhin was given a late penalty for interference and just 16 seconds into their powerplay, the Bulldogs scored again, this time off the stick of Mathieu Aubin to make it 3-0 after one.
The Bulldogs tacked on their fourth goal early in the second period. Maxim Lapierre stole the puck at the side of the Knights net and fed it to Michael Lambert who beat Krahn from between the hash marks.
Hamilton added a goal from Mikhail Grabovski at 18:58 of the third period for the 5-0 final. The margin of defeat matched the Knights' 6-1 loss to the Bulldogs last Friday.
The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights are now 10-4-1-0.
Three Stars: 1. Jonathan Ferland (HAM) - 1 goal; 2. Jaroslav Halak (HAM) - 20 saves; 3. Kyle Chipchura (HAM) - Game-winning goal
