Utah Grizzlies Make Trade, Add Depth
December 6, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced today the team has acquired the rights to defenseman Ed Hill, along with left wing Colt King and defenseman Treavor Peterson from the Augusta Lynx in exchange for Chris Leinweber, Anthony Battaglia and future considerations.
"It is extremely difficult to make a trade, especially when you lose two young men with the character and heart of Chris and Anthony," said Christie. "However, we have the opportunity to bring in two quality defensemen who will instantly add to our blueline, and that is an area where we have been short."
In 12 games with Phoenix earlier this season, Hill tallied 12 assists in 12 games. Selected in the second round (61st overall) by Nashville in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, the Massachusetts native scored a career-best six goals and 25 points in 66 ECHL games with Florida and Peoria in 2004-05, where he played under Grizzlies Head Coach Jason Christie. He has also played 90 AHL games with Lowell.
King also adds physical presence and grit to the Utah lineup. In 18 games with the Lynx already this season, he has served 108 penalty minutes and scored nine points (4 goals, 5 assists.) His offensive game began to come alive at the end of last season when he scored 18 points (10 goals, 8 assists) in the year's final 28 games. He was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in round 4 (#130 overall) in 2001.
After four seasons of college hockey at Concordia College, the 6-foot-4 Peterson is in his third season of professional hockey with all games prior to the trade played for Augusta. He has only missed four games during his career.
Three points out of first place in the ECHL's West Division, the Grizzlies return from their seven game road trip Saturday hosting San Diego. Face-off is at 8:05 PM at the E-Center. Utah will be looking to go unbeaten in their last four hockey games.
