San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls announced Tuesday that goaltender Tom Lawson has been recalled to the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters. The Colorado Avalanche, San Diego's NHL affiliate, originally assigned Lawson to the Gulls in early October.
In nine appearances with San Diego, Lawson has posted a 6-1-2 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. He also recorded his first shutout this season (14th career) in a 7-0 victory over the Bakersfield Condors on Nov. 18. Lawson has a 4-0-1 mark at home and his 2.37 GAA ranks ninth overall in the ECHL. He was just recently selected as the Gulls' Player of the Month for November.
Lawson began training camp this season with Colorado and Lowell before being assigned to San Diego on Oct. 6. The 6-foot-5-inch, 200-pound native of Whitby, Ontario played the last two seasons with the AHL's Hershey Bears, posting a combined 23-26-2 record with a 2.55 GAA, .923 save percentage and six shutouts. He recorded two consecutive shutouts last season and was named Hershey's Rookie of the Year in 2003-04.
The 26-year-old netminder was named the United Hockey League's Best Goaltender, Playoff MVP and First-Team All-Star in 2002-03 after leading the Fort Wayne Komets to the Colonial Cup Championship. Lawson led the UHL with a 2.00 GAA and seven shutouts in 2002-03, while posting an 11-1 record and 1.68 GAA in the playoffs.
The Gulls conclude their longest homestand of the year Friday against the Phoenix Roadrunners, with game-time set for 7:35 p.m. San Diego will then visit the Utah Grizzlies for the first time with a pair of games (Saturday and Monday).
