Aces' Underhill Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Matt Underhill of the Alaska Aces is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 28-Dec. 4.

The 6-foot-2 and 210-pound netminder went 3-0-0 with a shutout, a 0.67 goals-against average and a .976 save percentage to help the Aces go a perfect 5-0-0 and move into first place in the West Division.

The 26-year-old stopped 81 of 83 shots for the week, including 26 saves for a 2-1 win against Utah on Nov. 29. He stopped all 25 shots in a 5-0 win at Long Beach to earn his sixth professional shutout on Dec. 2 and finished the week stopping 32 of 33 shots in the Aces 5-1 win at Fresno on Dec. 4.

Selected in the sixth round (170th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Underhill is 7-3-1 record and is third in the league with a 1.91 goals-against average and ranks fifth in save percentage with .932.

In his first full season with Alaska, Underhill was 3-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage for the Aces in 2004-05 while also splitting time with Mississippi where he went 13-8-3 with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. He also played with St. John's and Providence of the American Hockey League in 2004-05 going 1-2-1.

A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill appeared in one game with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League in 2003-04 and has a career record of 6-7-3 in 18 games in the American Hockey League. He spent four years at Cornell University, going 42-31-9 with a 2.38 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 88 career games.

Runners Up: Maxime Daigneault, South Carolina (3-0-0, 1.33 GAA, .952 save pct.) and Mike Mole, Phoenix (2-1-0, 1.34 GAA, .962 save pct).
