
McVicar assigned to Salmon Kings from Canucks

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings are excited to announce that the Vancouver Canucks have assigned Goaltender Rob McVicar to the hockey club, this afternoon. McVicar is the first player to be assigned to the Salmon Kings by a National Hockey League franchise.
McVicar, 23, was drafted by the Canucks in the fifth round, 151st overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 6'4 201lbs. native of Brandon, Manitoba is in his third professional season having split time between the Columbia Inferno (ECHL) and the Manitoba Moose (AHL). McVicar saw his first NHL action last Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers.
"Rob is an outstanding goaltender and we are thrilled to add him to our roster. He will bring experience to our goaltending position," said Victoria Salmon Kings Head Coach and General Manager, Bryan Maxwell.
McVicar's best goaltending numbers in the ECHL came last year with the Inferno. He played 34 games and had a record of 14 wins, 14 losses and five ties in which he recorded three shutouts, with a 2.37 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. Since turning professional in the 2003-04 season McVicar has averaged a 2.70 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
"We are excited to start building a relationship with the Vancouver Canucks and look forward to helping develop one of their promising young prospects," said Dan Belisle, Vice-President of the Hockey Operations of the Victoria Salmon Kings.
McVicar is currently traveling to Boise, Idaho where he will meet the Salmon Kings and will be activated to the roster tomorrow morning, in time to likely get the call to start tomorrow night against the Steelheads.
The Salmon Kings three game series against the Idaho Steelheads begins tomorrow night at the Qwest Arena in Boise. The Salmon Kings and Steelheads will play again on Friday December 9th and Saturday December 10th, before they return home to prepare for a three game series the West Division leading Alaska Aces starting on Friday December 16th.
