Ice Pilots Lose at South Carolina 7-4

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots lost their second in a row losing to the South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday night in Charleston, South Carolina 7-4. The Ice Pilots drop their record to 8-10-2 for 18 points and the Stingrays improve their record to 8-9-5 for 21 points.

Corey Neilson gave the Ice Pilots a 1-0 lead scoring 21 seconds into the game. Neilson shot the puck from inside the blue line at the right points sending it tot the net. The puck bounce off a Stingrays defender into the net. Craig Olynick tied the game for the Stingrays 38 seconds later with his first goal of the season scoring from the right wing circle.

Dallas Steward scored his second goal of the season on a hard wrist shot from the right wing circle of the 13:19 mark of the first period that fooled Stingrays goalie Maxime Daigneault to give the Ice Pilots a 2-1 lead. South Carolinas Robin Gomez would score his seventh goal of the year with 48 seconds left in the first period to tie the game at 2.

Mark Rooneem scored 1:15 of the second period to give the Ice Pilots a 3-2 lead. The Stingrays would score three straight goals in the second period to take a 5-3 lead. Marty Clapton scored a power play goal at the 4:13 mark, John Hecimovic scored 21 seconds later and Ryan Finnerty scored on a breakaway at the six minute mark.

The Stingrays would score twice in the third period on a power play goal by Trevor Johnson and an even strength goal by Matt Reid. David Turon would end the scoring with his third goal of the year with 18 seconds left to make it a 7-4 final.

The Ice Pilots had 33 shots on goal, 10 penalty minutes and went 0-7 on the power play. South Carolina had 51 shots on goal, 16 penalty minutes and went 2-4 on the power play. Jomar Cruz was the losing goalie for the Ice Pilots and Maxime Daigneault picked up the win in goal for the Stingrays.

Before the game, Ice Pilots center Adam Courchai ne was named the ECHL/In Glas Co Player of the Week for scoring 5 goals, 6 assists for 11 points from November 28-December 4.

The Ice Pilots will play at Augusta on Wednesday night at 6:05 p.m. central time. The Ice Pilots will return home to play Charlotte this Saturday night at a special 8:05 p.m. face-off. The game is starting at 8:05 p.m. because of the University of West Florida graduation during the day at the Pensacola Civic Center. The first 1,000 fans will receive Ice Pilots key tags. Shaun Landolt and Mark Rooneem will sign autographs after the game.
