Upcoming OKC Dodgers Home Series Highlighted by Debut of Cielo Azul and Water Bottle Giveaway
May 29, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Dodgers open a five-game home series against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in a series highlighted by several special promotions.
¡CelebraciÃ"n Cielo Azul! begins with Thursday's 7:05 p.m. game as the OKC Dodgers will take the field as Cielo Azul de Oklahoma City for the first time this season. Cielo Azul - the team's identity for the Minor League Baseball® "Es Divertido Ser Un Fan®" initiative - will face off against Cazadores de Tormentas de Omaha.
Oklahoma City was one of 33 Minor League Baseball teams invited to participate in MiLB's "Es Divertido Ser Un Fan" ("It's Fun to Be a Fan®") campaign. MiLB® selected nine Pacific Coast League teams to participate and each will don an alternate, culturally relevant identity for select games during the 2018 season with the aim to attract, engage and celebrate Hispanic and Latino fans in each participating team's city.
Oklahoma City's Spanish team name Cielo Azul translates to "blue sky." The concept was developed to celebrate the richness and depth of Hispanic and Latino culture in the United States, while also linking the identity to the famous Dodger blue and to the team's home state of Oklahoma, which often boasts vast blue skies.
Cielo Azul is partnering with the Latino Community Development Agency for a special ticket offer during ¡CelebraciÃ"n Cielo Azul! Thursday through Sunday. For the cost of $15 per ticket, fans will receive a game ticket, Cielo Azul hat, $5 in Dodgers Dollars for use at the concession stands and $1 per ticket will be donated to the LCDA.
In addition to the players and coaches wearing Cielo Azul uniforms on the field, ¡CelebraciÃ"n Cielo Azul! will offer new specialty foods at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, such as a chorizo burger, carnitas taco platter, tamales platter, a Cuban sandwich and churros. Latin music and a bilingual environment will enhance the gameday experience for fans.
Professional luchador Blue Demon Jr. will make a special appearance at the game, which falls on a $2 Thursday featuring $2 Pepsi products, bottled water and select beer.
Milenia Perez, from Clinton, Okla., participated in the Telemundo singing contest "La Voz Kids," and will sing the national anthem prior to Thursday's game. Fireworks are scheduled to follow the game, presented by OKIE811.
Cielo Azul and Tyler Media will also recognize Paul Burkhardt and Brenda Grant during the Latino Community Leader Spotlight, presented by Tyler Media, Thursday. Both will receive a plaque during an in-game inning break thanking them for their service and lasting impact they have made on Latino communities in Oklahoma City.
Burkhardt has worked as the Coordinator of Community Outreach for Oklahoma City Community College since 2007 and previously worked as the Director of Hispanic Student Services at OSU-OKC. In his position at OCCC, Burkhart helps students and parents understand the college culture, how to enroll and find financial aid. He also teaches English as a Second Language and high school equivalency classes, participates in the Greater Oklahoma City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is part of Latino Leadership OKC.
Grant has worked for Santa Fe South Charter Schools in Oklahoma City for more than 12 years and currently works at Santa Fe South High School as a senior college and career advisor, community service coordinator and teacher. She also teaches English to children in China through an online education program. She serves as a volunteer chair for the Fiesta de Las Americas Festival and is a founding board member of the future St. Paul's Community School. She volunteers with her students at several events each year and was recently recognized as a Mentor of the Year through the David and Molly Boren Mentoring Initiative.
Cielo Azul's series against Omaha continues at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The gates open at 6 p.m. and the first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive an OKC Dodgers Water Bottle, presented by Tyler Media. Fireworks are scheduled to follow the game, presented by Oklahoma City University.
Saturday is Faith Night, presented by Southern Nazarene University and featuring a pregame concert by Unspoken, as Cielo Azul continues its series against Omaha at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for groups of 10 or more cost $15 each and each member of the group receives admission to the faith-based concert, as well as a limited edition OKC Dodgers baseball hat.
Sunday's 2:05 p.m. game falls on a Chaparral Energy Family Sunday, featuring pregame player autographs, a mascot meet-and-greet, face painters, inflatables and postgame kids run the bases.
Cecilia Vargas, from Oklahoma City, participated in the EstrellaTV talent competition "Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento," and will sing the national anthem prior to Sunday's game.
Five hundred OERB Player of the Month posters, featuring April winner Henry Ramos, will be available to children ages 12 and under as they exit the ballpark Sunday. The posters will showcase an action shot of OKC Dodgers outfielder Ramos, who was selected as the April winner through a social media poll, as well as informational OERB graphics about well site safety.
Tickets are available through the OKC Dodgers ticket office located on South Mickey Mantle Drive, by phone at (405) 218-2182, or by visiting okcdodgers.com.
