Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NE - Omaha shortstop Humberto Arteaga continued his hot stretch at the plate, compiling two hits and two RBI, and designated hitter Paulo Orlando recorded four hits in four at-bats, including three doubles, while Storm Chasers pitchers Josh Staumont and Jake Kalish combined to throw eight solid innings in a 3-2 victory on Monday afternoon at Werner Park.
It took just two pitches for Round Rock to get on the board when RF Scott Heineman hit his second home run of the season. However, it would be the only hit allowed by Staumont (4.0, H, R, ER, 3 K), who retired the next 12 of 13 Round Rock batters before exiting after the fourth.
The Storm Chasers tied up the game at one in the third when 1B Frank Schwindel drove in his team-best 35th RBI of the season. Omaha then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth thanks to an RBI single from Arteaga. After Round Rock answered in the sixth, Arteaga drove in another run with a single through the right side to move the Storm Chasers ahead 3-2 in the last half of the frame.
The two hits from Arteaga (2-3, 2 RBI, SB) means he has tallied hits in 18 his last 29 at-bats. He was named PCL Player of the Week prior to Monday's game for his efforts. Orlando (4-4, 2 R, 3 2B) led the Storm Chasers offense with hits in all four at-bats, including three doubles.
Kalish (4.0 IP, 5 H, R, ER, 2 K) and Kevin Lenik (1.0 IP, K) finished out the game for the Storm Chasers. Kalish surrendered a run while striking out three to earn the victory, while Lenik recorded his first save of the season with a perfect ninth. Round Rock starter Tyler Wagner (5.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, K) suffered the loss to fall to 0-3.
The two teams will conclude their five-game series on Tuesday evening with first pitch set for 6:35 PM CT. RHP Glenn Sparkman (3-3, 4.80) is expected to toe the rubber for the Storm Chasers, while LHP Michael Roth (1-2, 2.87) is slated to get the nod for Round Rock.
Tickets are still available for that game and all Storm Chasers contests throughout the 2018 season, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
