February 26, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Michel Beausoleil's breakaway goal just over two minutes into overtime gave the Tulsa Oilers a 3-2 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings in Central Hockey League action at Southaven on Saturday, February 26th. The loss marked the fourth straight game for the RiverKings to come up winless (0-3-1), as the team heads to Arizona for a three-game week of games against the Sundogs this coming week.
With the loss, Mississippi falls to 24-25-5 for 53 points and fifth place in the CHL Berry Conference standings.
Mississippi opened the scoring with a power play goal at 16:19 of the first period from Matt Summers, who netted his 22nd goal of the year and 12th power play tally. The goal gives Summers the team lead in those categories and he leads the CHL in power play goals.
However, the Oilers tied the game at 1-1 late in the period on Jack Combs' 32nd goal of the season with 1:28 left in the initial period.
The second period was scoreless until Tulsa's John Mori beat Mississippi goalie Alexander Pechurskiy with eight seconds left for a 2-1 lead after two periods.
In the third period, Mississippi tied the game just over seven minutes into the session with Chris Richards' 16th goal of the year and eighth power play tally.
The RiverKings also had a power play opportunity late in the final minutes of regulation and into the overtime period, but failed to score, setting up the game heroics for Beausoleil, who scored his 21st goal of the year and fourth game-winning tally of the season.
Mississippi outshot the Oilers 40-25 for the game, with Trevor Cann (12-6-1) stopping 38 Mississippi shots, while Pechurskiy (12-10-2) made 21 saves for the RiverKings.
The RiverKings scored both goals on the power play in eleven chances, while the Oilers were stopped in eight power play chances.
Next home action for the RiverKings will be Thursday, March 10th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. The opponent will be the Dayton Gems in a 7:05 PM start.
