Kansas City Mavericks News Release

RAPID CITY, South Dakota - The Missouri Mavericks and Rapid City Rush wrapped up their two-game, weekend series Saturday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena. The Mavericks would skate to a 4-0 victory on the strength of Robby Nolan's fifth shutout of the season and two goals by Ryan Jardine. Todd Griffith added a goal for his sixth tally in the last four games.

The Mavericks were first to get on the scoreboard as Ryan Jardine took a pass from defenseman Blake Forsyth and roofed it over the right shoulder of Danny Battochio to give the Mavericks the early lead. Forsyth and Brandon Coccimiglio were given the assists on Jardine's goal. The period ended with the Mavericks holding a generous advantage in the shot department, outshooting Rapid City 14-7 in the opening frame. Both teams went zero-for-one on the power play in the period.

No goals were recorded in the second period, but the Rush piled up 20 shots on Mavs' goaltender Robby Nolan. The Mavericks countered with 10 shots in the period. The physicality ran high in the period as well, as both teams combined for 37 penalty minutes in the period, which included four fighting majors between the two teams. Missouri went zero-for-two on the power play in the period.

The Mavericks were quick to tally a pair of insurance goals in the early goings of the third and final period. Ryan Jardine buried his second goal of the game three and a half minutes into the period. Assists on the goal went to Toby Lafrance and Ray DiLauro. Just over a minute later, the combination of Mike Berry and Todd Griffith once again yielded results as Griffith put the Mavericks up 3-0 on a pass from Berry. The goal was Griffith's sixth goal in the last four games. The Mavericks would pour more salt on the wound as Nick Sirota added a goal with just under three minutes to go. Berry added his second assist of the night on Sirota's goal. The Rush would remain scoreless through the final horn and Robby Nolan turned in his fifth shutout of the season, stopping all 41 shots from Rapid City.

The Mavericks ended the night going one-for-four on the power play and finished the night with 35 shots on Danny Battochio. The Mavericks' league-leading penalty kill unit was perfect on the night, allowing zero goals on four opportunities.

The Mavs return home on Tuesday, when they take on the Dayton Gems for the first time at Independence Events Center. The Mavericks then take on the Quad City Mallards in a home-and-home weekend series, starting on Friday night as the two teams face each other at Independence Events Center.
