
Bucks Fall 3-2, Bees Win Mayor's Cup

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 Saturday night at State Farm Arena. The Bucks loss, coupled with Arizona's overtime loss, puts Laredo three points back of the Sundogs for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference. The Bucks fall to 18-28-7 (43 points) on the season.
With the win the Bees (22-27-6, 50 points) clinched the first-ever Cricket Mayor's Cup by winning the season series over the Bucks 20 points to 17.
Juliano Pagliero stopped 23 of 25 shots and the Bees had three different goal scorers to snap their four-game winless streak.
The Bucks scored first for the fourth straight game as Keegan Dansereau scored in his first shift with Laredo on an odd man rush just 1:10 into the first period. Danserau, who was signed prior to Saturday's game, took a pass from Neil Trimm and scored from the bottom of the right circle.
The Bees would tie the game at 1-1 just over a minute later when Tyler Lehrke scored on an odd-man rush from the slot to net his ninth of the season and his second in as many games against the Bucks.
Laredo would jump back in front and make it 2-1 at the 4:42 mark of the first when Brian Matte scored on the power-play from the right circle to score his fifth of the year.
Rio Grande Valley would tie the game at 2-2 with 8:12 left in the first when Aaron Lee picked up a loose puck in the slot and nabbed a shorthanded goal. The goal was Lee's 17th of the season.
The Killer Bees would take a 3-2 lead with just 1:16 left in the first period when Aaron Lewicki scored a power-play goal from an odd angle to pick up his 19th of the season.
Each team put up 13 shots in the first period.
Neither team scored in the second period as the Bees held a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
The Bees outshot the Bucks 7-5 in the second period.
Neither team scored in the third period as the Bees held on for the win.
The Bucks outshot the Bees 7-6 in the third period with Rio Grande Valley outshooting Laredo in the game 26-25.
Pier Pelletier stopped 23 of 26 shots he faced for the Bucks.
