Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- In a scintillating contest, the Allen Americans defeated the Bloomington PrairieThunder tonight, 3-2 in a shootout, in front of a season-high crowd of 5,730. For Allen, it was the club's fourth straight victory.
Allen opened up the scoring 12:20 into the first frame, when Liam Huculak scored on the power play for his sixth goal of the season. Jonathan Zion made a nifty pass across to Colton Yellow Horn, who fired a one-timer on net, creating a rebound for Huculak to deposit the puck into the net past Bloomington goaltender Marco Emond.
Bloomington tied the game up 15:09 into the first with a goal from Bill Bagron, who wired a wrister past Americans netminder Chris Whitley for the tally.
After a scoreless second period, David Strathman went end-to-end early in the third with a dazzling effort which put the Americans up 2-1. Strathman, playing forward after Kip Brennan was recalled to Chicago(AHL) earlier today, went around 2 defensemen and lifted it over Emond for the marker.
Bloomington tied the score later in the period with a goal from Ryan McLeod, who lofted the puck over the shoulder of Whitley to make it 2-2.
Following an action-packed overtime period which remained scoreless, the Americans and PThunder went to a shootout which electrified the near-sellout crowd at the Allen Event Center. After Bruce Graham and John Snowden were held scoreless, the Americans rattled off three consecutive goals in the shootout. Colton Yellow Horn, Jonathan Zion and David Nimmo all lit the lamp to put away Bloomington and secure the victory for Allen. Whitley turned aside three-of-four tries from Bloomington skaters.
With the victory, Allen moves to 38-11-2 for the season, 15 points ahead of second place Texas.
Allen will now skate again Tuesday night in Laredo against the Bucks. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM at the Laredo Energy Arena. Fans are encouraged to visit Boston's: The Gourmet Pizza on 121 in Mckinney for the Official Away Game watching party.
