Mallards Drop Dayton 4-2

DAYTON, Ohio (February 26, 2011)- Four different Quad City Mallards scored and David Brown made 28 saves as the Mallards defeated the host Dayton Gems 4-2 Saturday night.

The Mallards took the lead for good when Jacques Perreault's blue line blast snapped a 1-1 tie at 2:59 of the second period. Quad City was on the power play when Brandon Marino scored from the side of the net to stretch the gap to 3-1 with what proved to be the game winning goal at 5:27 of the second.

At 11:16 of the third period, the Gems pulled within one when Brett Lutes jabbed the puck in from the crease. However, just under three minutes later the Mallards were again up a man when Obi Aduba tipped in a vital insurance goal.

The Mallards never trailed on the night. Tyler Townsend jammed the opening goal in from the doorstep at 5:29 of the first period. At 8:11 of the first, the Gems tied the score at one when Matt Miller snapped the puck home from the slot, but the Mallards would outscore Dayton 3-1 the rest of the way.

The Mallards next take to the ice tomorrow night against the IceMen in Evansville. The Mallards next play at home next Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks.
