Dayton Gems News Release

The Dayton Gems kept their game with Quad City close for most of the game, but came up on the wrong end of a 4-2 game on Saturday night.

In front of 3,611 fans, the Gems took 30 shots at the goal but were only able to record two goals on the night.

Quad City was the first to get on the scoreboard with a goal by Tyler Townsend 5:29 into the game. Townsend scored his fifth goal of the season thanks to teammates Tyler Kindle and Jason Kostadine, who were both credited with an assist on the play.

The Gems responded with a goal of their own later in the period. Forward Matt Miller scored his second goal of the season for Dayton to tie the game at 1-1.

The Gems let things slip away from them a little bit in the second period. The Mallards' Jacques Perreault and Brandon Marino each scored to give Quad City a 3-1 advantage in the period.

The Gems tried to fight their way back into the game late in the third period. Brett Lutes scored after a faceoff near the Quad City goal to make it a 3-2 game with 8:44 left in the game.

The Mallards quickly shut the door on any comeback the Gems had in store. Obi Aduba scored for Quad City and handed Dayton the 4-2 loss.

The Gems will wrap-up their weekend homestand with a game against Fort Wayne on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Hara Arena.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
