Jacks Sweep Weekend with Another Overtime Win
February 26, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - For the second straight night the Odessa Jackalopes (22-24-6) needed overtime before topping the visiting Arizona Sundogs (19-26-8) by a 4-3 final at the Ector County Coliseum. With the win, the Jacks sweep their weekend set against Arizona and pulled themselves to within three points of the fifth playoff spot in their conference.
Jeff Pierce was the one who provided Odessa's heroics just 24 hours after Mike Ramsay had done the same thing. Alex Dunn and Mike Lesperance picked up the assists on Pierce's 16th goal of the season in front of the net.
It was also the second straight game that the Sundogs erased a two-goal deficit in order to force the extra frame. After Todd Robinson had extended Odessa's lead to 3-1 with 2:49 to play in the third period, the Sundogs Luke Erickson struck 37 seconds later. Cam Keith knotted the game at 3-3 on his second goal of the game, with just 1:05 to play, after Arizona opted for the extra attacker on the ice.
Robinson started Odessa off quickly by scoring 17 seconds into the contest. The Jacks' 1-0 lead held up until 3:42 into the middle frame when Keith tied the game up.
Dunn scored 3:48 into the third period before the furious close to regulation.
Odessa remains tied with Rio Grande Valley with 50 points in the standings. In seven meetings between Odessa and Arizona this season, five have been decided by just a goal - four of those after regulation.
David McKee stopped 36 shots in the win for the Jacks. Mike Ramsay and Sebastien Thinel each finished with three assists in the game, plus both extended their point streaks to seven games. Odessa has now won back-to-back games after snapping a four-game winless skid (0-3-1).
Odessa continues their homestand on Tuesday when they host the Texas Brahmas at 7:05 PM. The action can be heard on Classic Rock 102.1 FM.
