Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
The Victoria Salmon Kings announced that they have hired former Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach Troy Ward to lead the club behind the bench for the remainder of the season. Bryan Maxwell has been reassigned to other club duties to be determined.
Ward comes to the Salmon Kings with strong coaching credentials and a winning record in the NHL, ECHL and NCAA. Ward coached the Trenton Titans to the ECHL finals in 2000 and spent the past three seasons as Associate Head Coach with the top-ranked University of Wisconsin Badgers.
"On behalf of the entire Salmon Kings organization, I want to thank Bryan for his hard work and dedication both on and off the ice during the past two seasons," said Dave Dakers, President of the Victoria Salmon Kings. "He has helped build this team and get us established in Victoria with the great fan base and support we now enjoy. However, we've made this change to make the team better."
Dan Belisle, Vice-President of Hockey Operations, said that the time has come to shake up the formula behind the bench.
"I have known Troy for several years and have always had a great respect for his knowledge of the game and his tireless work ethic. Our players will benefit greatly from his expertise," said Belisle.
"We needed to do this now in the best interest of this team and our fans," he said. "I believe this team is better than our record indicates and a change behind the bench will lead to more consistent play and more wins."
Belisle will assume General Manager duties for the hockey club.
Following practice on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, the Salmon Kings will hold a media conference to introduce Troy Ward. The conference will start at 12:15 p.m. at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
